Hamilton Fire Chief Thomas Eickelberger said a fire alarm came in about 6:30 a.m.
Butler County Administrator Judi Boyko said Monday that based on preliminary findings, it is believed the fire originated in a room in the basement of the courthouse.
“Most fire damage was contained to that room and an adjoining storage area,” Boyko said.
Power was shut off in the surrounding area. Several crews responded. No injuries were reported.
Additional details are not available regarding what caused the fire, or the extent of damage, county officials said today.
City of Hamilton fire investigators are inspecting the point of origin, Boyko said.
“The Board of Commissioners is grateful no one was injured and appreciative of the response service by the City of Hamilton Fire Department and all responding fire jurisdictions,” she said.
The Butler County Courthouse cost $305,000 to build and was completed and occupied on Feb. 4, 1889.
The four-story structure has been a part of an ongoing $7.2 million restoration project to develop and update the building.
